CULTURAL COOKING
Camp cooking can often be classified as boring! Pasta with tinned tomato based sauces, Rice or Cous Cous with stir fried vegetables or even dehydrated meals! So to get some inspiration for your next meal plan look no further than a feel good story written by CGGS’s own Dr Rittey.
Residents of the North Melbourne and Flemington public housing towers recently launched a cookbook which celebrates community and the food that they love. It was designed to bring neighbours together within those public housing towers after all the hardship they have gone through and 1400 hard copies were delivered to residents on 24 July. They have also shared it with us for free and the link is in the story. The recipes are all pretty simple and nutritious, so if you’re looking for something different to cook and you want an authentic recipe for okra or butter chicken, check it out.

TRAIL MIX
Uncle Toby’s Muesli bars… SCROGIN (Sultanas, Chocolate, Raisins, Other Goodies including Nuts?)… a bag of random seeds or non anaphylactic food items that taste like cardboard… Its time to experiment with your own high energy snack option.
Try one of these suggestions:
- No Bake Chocolate and Coconut Snowballs
- Health Gummy Lollie snacks (with other healthy ideas from Steph Gaudreau)
- Protein rich Recipes from True Protein
- Nut Free Granola Bars
To be acknowledged as completing this task you need to leave a comment and photo of which snack you created and suggest how you would improve this to ensure you could take it on the next camp.
